Shri Rajkumar Duraiswamy, an Engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDM) from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, took over the reins of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, an integrated Oil & Gas company, Maharatna CPSE of India and a Fortune Global 500 Company as Chairman & Managing Director in October 2016.
Rajkumar brings with him illustrious career spanning over 3 decades, during which he steered various key functions in BPCL that helped transform BPCL into an integrated Oil & Gas Company. Under his leadership as C&MD, BPCL has witnessed some of its most pride worthy achievements such as the coveted Maharatna status, the Star PSU Award, establishment of BPCL’s wholly Owned Gas Subsidiary – Bharat Gas Resources Ltd. and diversification into Petrochemicals and Renewables.
Prior to taking over this assignment, he headed BPCL’s upstream arm Bharat Petro Resources Ltd. (BPRL), as Managing Director and propelled BPRL into a fully recognized Upstream Company of international standards. The phenomenal growth and development of BPRL bears testimony to the stellar role that he played in enhancing the net worth of the Company and making BPRL into a self-sustaining revenue generating entity, creating significant value not only for BPCL but also for the Nation.
A perfectionist & strategist, Shri Rajkumar has close to 17 years of Board experience. He serves on a number of Government Committees, and Joint Working Groups established by the Government. He was also a member of a Committee on the Indian National Standards which set up standards and guidelines for engineering practices.
In today’s disruptive world, Shri Rajkumar strongly believes that success of an organization rests on four pillars namely, Technology, Infrastructure, People & Safety / Service (T.I.P.S). He encourages innovation, agility, empowerment for sustainable and profitable growth. Strong believer of giving it back to the society, he aggressively pursues philanthropic initiatives both in professional as well as in individual capacity.
Rajkumar was recently adjudged as one of the 100 Most influential CEOs across the world. CEOWORLD’s global ranking of the best chief executives for 2019, measured more than 1200 CEOs across 96 countries. The selection was primarily taking the long view and also based on the financial returns during the CEOs’ tenure, apart from CEOs’ track record on environmental governance and social issues.
Mr. Rajkumar was also conferred with Distinguished Alumni Award by IIM, Bangalore, last year, in recognition of his outstanding achievements and recognizing him as someone who has been a torch bearer, displaying tremendous fortitude, leadership qualities and positive attitude making a difference to the organization and society at large.
