Among the highly accomplished students, there are some who require financial assistance to pursue their education at IIT Madras. Our Office of Alumni and Corporate Relations is delighted to provide support with tuition fees to facilitate their educational pursuits.
- Our Benefactors
- This Merit-cum-Means scholarship is made possible through the generous contributions of alumni, corporate partners and well-wishers. Their commitment helps alleviate the financial burden of tuition expenses for deserving and meritorious students.
- Objective of Merit-cum-Means Scholarship
- Until 2015, the annual tuition fee was Rs. 90,000, fully covered by the Merit-Cum Scholarship. Since 2016, the tuition fee has been revised to Rs. 2 lakhs per annum. The Government’s Merit-Cum-Means scholarship now covers 2/3rd of the fee (i.e., Rs. 1.33 lakhs), leaving Rs. 66,667 to be borne by the student. This applies specifically to those whose parental income is between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 5 lakhs annually.
Starting from 2021, our support extends to meritorious students with parental income ranging from Rs. 5 lakhs to Rs. 8 lakhs.
- Eligibility/Renewal Criteria
- Category A :

- Parental income between Rs. 1 lakh and 5 lakhs per annum.
- B. Tech. / Dual Degree students are eligible.
- Beneficiary must maintain a minimum GPA of 5.0 across all the semesters.
- Tuition assistance will be provided for up to four (4) years based on renewal criteria.
- Category B :

- Parental income above Rs. 5 lakhs to 8 lakhs per annum.
- B. Tech. / Dual Degree students are eligible.
- Students will be assigned according to merit criteria, contingent on fund availability.

- Fund Transfer Methodology

- Students should update their bank account details in the IITM Workflow.
- On confirmation from the ACR office, Main Accounts will transfer the scholarship fund to students’ bank account within two to three weeks.
- Students must confirm to the ACR Office their receipt of the fund.
