Shri Sreenivas Subramoney is a distinguished leader in computer architecture, and the research and efficient design of computer hardware and software. He is recognized for his pioneering contributions to processor and memory architecture, and system software. After earning his B.Tech. in Computer Science & Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 1995, he pursued an M.S. in Computer Engineering at Ohio State University and later attended the Executive Leadership Program at Harvard Business School.
Throughout his illustrious career spanning over 25 years, Shri Sreenivas has held pivotal roles in the global technology landscape. A Fellow at Intel Corporation, he has led cutting-edge product development and breakthrough research into CPU core architectures, processor cache hierarchies, memory systems and AI accelerators. His foundational leadership in developing high-performance computing solutions has shaped the future of computing benefiting billions of users of cloud and personal computers world-wide. He is an elected Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) an organization comprised of India’s most distinguished engineers, engineer-scientists and technologists.
Beyond his technical contributions, Shri Sreenivas has been deeply committed to advancing research collaborations between academia and industry. He established and led multi-million-dollar global computing research centres such as the Intel/NSF Foundational Microarchitecture Research (FoMR) Center with the U.S. National Science Foundation, and the Intel Transformative Server Architectures (TSA) Center, fostering industry-academia collaborative research with universities worldwide. His mentorship of young researchers and leadership in professional organizations such as IEEE, ACM, and the Semiconductor Research Corporation have significantly strengthened the global systems research ecosystem.
A prolific inventor, he holds 60 issued U.S. patents with 75 more pending. At Intel Corporation, he has received numerous Distinguished Invention Awards and has been nominated for the Gordon Moore Award for Outstanding Innovation. He has published over 50 papers at top-tier hardware, software and systems conferences (ISCA, MICRO, HPCA,PLDI, CVPR, USENIX, IEDM, DAC) receiving multiple Best Paper Awards. His world-wide impact on computer architecture was also recognized through his induction into the prestigious IEEE/ACM ISCA and MICRO Halls of Fame, Shri Sreenivas being the first yet in Asia to receive both these honours.
For his outstanding achievements in industrial computer architecture, global systems research leadership, and impactful contributions to industry-academic collaboration, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and its alumni proudly confer upon Shri Sreenivas Subramoney, the Distinguished Alumni Award for the year 2025.
