Most of all IIT Madras taught me to be courageous. To be bold enough to take the path less taken. Even though it’s been 6 years since I graduated from IIT Madras, It still constantly pushes me to be more ambitious, to always dream higher, and to achieve more. It pushes me to differentiate myself from the rest. When life throws curve balls at me I tend to hold my ground for the confidence IITM has instilled in me. I say to myself I’ve done it before I can do it again. Further, IITM gave me lifelong mentors. I am still in touch with some of my professors (Madhu Mutyam, Chester Rebeiro, Rupesh Nasre) and they still guide me. My college friends have left jobs in the US to become entrepreneurs in India. Some are pursuing their Doctoral studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. These amazing friends are now on the way to becoming industry leaders and they inspire me as well.
After graduation from IIT Madras, I worked at Microsoft for a year (2017-18). Later I took up the challenging task of cracking the UPSC Civil Service Examination by quitting Microsoft. After 4 years I felt it is now prudent to move on. Though I couldn’t crack UPSC this experience taught me that setbacks you face in life become failures when you don’t learn from them. I am on to the next adventure as I am admitted to the University of Minnesota for my master’s education in computer science and will be going to the United States this fall. These four years widened my worldview by teaching me about Indian Polity, Governance, Culture, Social Issues, Economy, Environment, Security, International Relations, Agriculture, Moral philosophies, Geography, History and so much more. I will continue to strive to serve the country in a different form may be temporarily from a different country but my heart still & always beats for India.
That’s my story.
