IITM alumni-run GalaxEye plans to launch sat constellation next year

GalaxEye was founded in 2021 by a team of five alumni of IIT-Madras — Suyash, Daniel, Rakshit, Kishan and Praneet — who have previously worked together as part of Team Avishkar Hyperloop, a student competition team and qualified as the only Asian Finalist at a global competition event in 2019.

In 2023, GalaxEye built India’s first indigenous drone equipped with Synthetic Aperture Radar and is now working on building India’s first private constellation of earth observation satellites.

The startup is also the first Indian startup with a focus on earth observation satellites that has signed an MoU with space promoter IN-SPACe for collaboration. Pranit Mehta, co-founder of GalaxEye, who along with other four team members spoke to PM Modi in Mann Ki Baat, said they intend to launch their own constellation of satellites next year. As part of the startup, they have built a sensor that can actually penetrate through clouds, solving several India-specific problems.

GalaxEye is able to provide imagery even during cloudy weather and night time, which the co-founder claimed to be the team’s “strongest technology”.
