IIT Madras launches Smart Manufacturing and Digital Transformation Centre

IT Madras launched the Smart Manufacturing and Digital Transformation Centre, SMDTC, in order to achieve world class and self-reliance in manufacturing. The SMDTC has been launched to democratize Smart Manufacturing and Digital Transformation.

The Indian Insititute of Technology, IIT Madras has come up with a launch of Smart Manufacturing and Digital Transformation Centre, SMDTC to accomplish world class and self-reliance in manufacturing. It will focus on various things such as Collaborative Research and End-to-End Innovation for Smart Process Intelligence, 5G enablement and Smart Manufacturing Supply Chain Collaboration.
 
According to the presser, the SMDTC will create the foundation elements of the manufacturing execution system, IIoT Database and Manufacturing Intelligent Software platforms for Indian MSMEs, adopting Industry 4.0 practices to attain towards world class and self-reliant manufacturing.
 
As per the press release, this Smart Manufacturing and Digital Transformation Centre is established in joint collaboration with the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre which is actually a Centre of excellence, MESA International which is a global non-profit present in over 40 countries and Cantier Systems, which is a leading provider of Next Generation Manufacturing Execution System for Industry 4.0
 
“SMDTC will lead in provisioning a Smart Manufacturing Model Factory / Experience Centre and also support Collaborative Research / Innovation for Industry 4.0 in Process Intelligence, Robotics and Machining Dynamics Control Automation.” said Professor N.Ramesh Babu, Faculty, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Madras and Secretary, AMDTC, IIT Madras.
 
According to the press release, the Smart Manufacturing and Digital Transformation Centre was inaugurated on July 13, 2022 by Dr.N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons with all the other members of IIT Madras, MESA and Cantier Systems present.
 
This centre will have a huge focus on Education and Community Interaction for capacity building, maturity assessment and others. The information has been taken from the press release.
