Prof. Venkatasubramanian Viswanathan

Prof. Venkatasubramanian Viswanathan is an academic and researcher who has made significant impact in the field of Electrochemical Energy Storage and Materials Science. He is currently Associate Professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department at the University of Michigan.

He has also served as an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, and as a Postdoctoral Researcher at MIT. He is also Co-Founder of Aionics Inc., Chement Inc., Propel Aero, and Battery Aero Inc., and IonWorks Technologies Inc., and a Consultant for QuantumScape Corp.

Prof. Viswanathan holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and a Dual Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras where he was ranked first in his class. His awards include the ACS Energy Lectureship Award in “Outstanding Mid-Career Researcher” category (2024), MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 (2020), Office of Naval Research (ONR) Young Investigator Award (2019), and Alfred P. Sloan Fellow in Chemistry (2018).

His academic interests lie in developing new battery materials for electric vehicles and aviation using advanced computational methods and robotic experimentation.
