Academically distinguished from the outset, she completed her BA and MA in Economics from Madras University, securing the University Second Rank in her postgraduate programme. She went on to achieve All India Fifth Rank in the Indian Economic Service examination in 1980, a remarkable feat that attests to the sharpness of her analytical mind. She then pursued her M.S. in Industrial Management at IIT Madras from 1980 to 1982, completing her degree in 1985.

She has been an active participant in the alumni activities of both IIT Madras and her undergraduate institution, Stella Maris College, and has delivered lectures on women’s empowerment at various forums, lending her voice and experience to a cause she has championed throughout her life. In recognition of her contributions, she was presented with the Outstanding Alumni Award by the IIT Madras Alumni Association in 2016.
Among her most enduring contributions is her role as Co-Founder and First Chairperson of PALS, an organisation she helped establish and continues to serve as a Governing Board member.
