Dr Azeez Mohammed graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Madras in 1993 and a master’s and PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1998.
Azeez Mohammed was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Covanta in December 2021, one of the most innovative sustainability and clean energy firms. His passion for ensuring that “no waste is ever wasted” by creating value from waste outlay Global Corporate Sustainability Initiatives with a “Sustainability-Linked Financing Framework”. This vision fosters collaborative governance and has catapulted Covanta to the top 20 Energy & Utilities of America’s Most Responsible Companies in 2022.
Dr Azeez Mohammed’s focus on Industry makes him a sought-after visionary and advisor for over a dozen Industry segments in his advisory and board roles in large private equity groups like TPG, Blackstone and Next Gen clean energy companies.
Before this role, Dr Azeez was Executive Vice President at Bloom Energy, responsible for international expansion to help countries and businesses transition away from fossil fuels.
Before Bloom Energy, Dr Azeez served as President & CEO of GE Power Conversion, a $2B, 8000-person business that provides solutions to electrify the world’s industries. He also led GE Power Services in the Middle East and Africa and GE Energy Services in Latin America. He began his career at GE Research and was selected for GE’s Corporate Audit Staff, a prestigious consulting and leadership development organisation.
Dr Azeez Mohammed began his career journey at GE and quickly rose to GE’s executive management. For more than 20 years, Mr Mohammed worked at General Electric, leading and turning around multiple standalone industrial businesses.
