IIT-Madras receives most innovative institute of the year award

The Indian Institute of Technology- Madras has bagged the ‘Most Innovative Institute of the Year’ award from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for its disruptive innovations. This award is one of the categories in CII Industrial Innovation Awards 2020 and was bestowed during the DST-CII Technology Summit’ held virtually recently.

Innovations recognised for this award include VITALSENS, a platform technology for wearable health monitoring device, “Arise” standing wheelchair for disabled people and Shakti, India’s first indigenous microprocessor.

“Both the government and industry have realised that disruption to status quo can be beneficial. The award also highlights the innovation in the institutes,” said Ashutosh Sharma, secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

IIT-Madras was previously adjudged as the ‘Top innovative Institution’ in the country in Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) in 2019 and 2020. ARIIA Ranking was launched by the Innovation Cell of Ministry of Education.

Ravindra Gettu, dean (Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research), IIT Madras, said, “We constantly focus on making our innovations employable by the domestic industry by providing global-level know how and fostering academia-industry collaboration.”
