The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has secured a top award from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for innovations. The award titled ‘Most Innovative Institute of the Year’ was offered during DST-CII Technology Summit.
The institute has secured the award for its achievements in Healthcare, Technology and other categories. The award is offered to innovations including VITALSENS for clinical-grade wearable monitoring. The innovations include the wireless continuous multi-parameter patient monitoring devices.
Another innovation by IIT Madras is ‘Arise’ standing wheelchair for disabled people and Shakti – India’s first indigenous microprocessor.
Ashutosh Sharma, secretary of the Department of Science and Technology at Government of India said, “Both the government and industry have realised that disruption to status quo can be beneficial. The award also highlights the innovation in the institutes.”
The institute was previously recognised as the Top Innovation Institution in Atal Ranking of Institution on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA). The ranking was first launched in 2019 and 2020.
Ravindra Get, dean of industrial consultancy and sponsored research at IIT Madras said, “We constantly focus on making our innovations employable by the domestic industry by providing global level know-how and fostering academia-industry collaboration.”
The joint collaboration and efforts between the industry and government have helped in realising that disruption to status quo can be beneficial. Awards like CII highlight the innovations led by Indian institutes.
