IIT-Madras, Anna University witness more Covid cases

Tamilnadu on Wednesday registered 1,181 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of persons tested positive for coronavirus infection in the State so far to 8,02,342.

According to the daily bulletin released by the State Health department, the capital city of Chennai registered 344 cases in the last 24 hours.

There were two deaths reported, and the active cases in Chennai currently stands at 3093. With this, the total number of persons affected by the pandemic in the metropolis has reached 2,20,903.

As many as 12 Covid-19 patients died on Wednesday, taking the total number of fatalities in the State due to the pandemic to 11,931.

On the positive side, 1,240 patients were discharged from various hospitals in Tamilnadu. With this, the total number of recoveries in the State has touched 7,80,531.

Meanwhile, the Covid count at IIT-Madras is on the rise, with more students testing positive. This makes it a total of 191 cases in the premier institute.

It is also reported that six hostel students at Anna University’s College of Engineering in Guindy, have tested positive.

This comes in the backdrop of the State ordering testing at various colleges across the State, after IIT-Madras turned out to be a hotspot. The campus is now under temporary lockdown.
