Dr. Pradeep Gupta served as Mayor of the City of South San Francisco in 2017 after winning elections to the City Council in 2012. Prior to that, Dr. Gupta served on the City’s Planning Commission since 2009 and was appointed as its chair in 2011.
Beyond the city limits, Dr. Gupta works closely with many regional planning agencies. Currently, he serves as the Chair of Regional Planning Committee and is a member of Association of Bay Area Governments Board, an agency serving 102 cities of Northern California.
In addition to public service since 2009, Dr. Gupta boasts a 30 year career in the electric power industry of USA. He worked for eight years at Southern California Edison Company as a supervising planning engineer. Following that, he directed energy analysis work at the Electric Power Research Institute in Palo Alto.
There he introduced planning concepts of demand side management and option valuation of utility risk management. Later, he served as Principal at a number of energy consulting agencies between 1990 and 1998.
In addition, Dr. Gupta is currently serving on the board of the Peninsula Clean Energy of San Mateo County, a community choice aggregation that is bringing clean energy to communities along the peninsula. Dr. Gupta holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, and a B. Tech. In Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
