Woman cop alleges work burden, harassment by inspector in viral audio

In the two-minute-ten-second long audio, the woman constable identified as Usha Pandian, said that she was unable to handle the torture by an inspector for the last few days as she has been given work she could not handle. “I took leave for a week unable to handle the work, but I’m again being dumped with work,” alleged the woman constable in the audio.

Speaking to DT Next, she said that she got a surgery done in the spinal cord as she met with an accident a few years ago and the pain got aggravated after she got infected with COVID-19 in August. “I was under observation in IIT-Madras campus and then on home quarantine for about 10 days before returning to work. But I could not be as active as before due to persistent back pain,” she added.

In the audio, she had also mentioned that many policemen commit suicide due to such harassments, but they could not prove it since senior officials seek evidence. “I’m ready to commit suicide if it would make the environment for all other women police personnel safer,” she said.

While the constable informed that she has been asked to report to the control room, a senior police official when contacted said that an inquiry has been ordered and no decision has been taken as yet. The constable and the inspector she accused are said to have been working in the same station for about two years.
