Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has been awarded the ‘Most Innovative Institute of the Year’ award from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for its different innovations.

The award bagged by IIT-Madras is one of the categories in CII Industrial Innovation Awards 2020 and was bestowed during the DST-CII Technology Summit’ conducted online recently.

On the other hand, innovations recognised for this award include Shakti, India’s initial indigenous microprocessor as well as VITALSENS, a platform technology for wearable health monitoring equipment, “Arise” standing wheelchair for disabled people.

Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India stated, “Both the government and industry have realised that disruption to status quo can be beneficial. The award also highlights the innovation in the institutes.”

IIT-Madras was under the ‘Top innovative Institution’ in the country in Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) in 2019 and 2020.

Additionally, ARIIA Ranking was established by the Innovation Cell of the Ministry of Education.

Dean (Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research), IIT Madras Ravindra Gettu stated, “We constantly focus on making our innovations employable by the domestic industry by providing global-level know how and fostering academia-industry collaboration.”
