IIT Madras, Rajasthan Government Tie Up To Implement Data-Driven Road Safety Approach

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and Government of Rajasthan have agreed to establish a framework for a data-driven approach to road safety systems. Prof. Ravindra Gettu, Dean (Industrial Consultancy and Funded Research), IIT Madras, has signed a contract with the Government of Rajasthan, representative, Mr. Ravi Jain, Transport Commissioner.

The agreement focuses on strengthening road safety initiatives, increase government-wide capacity and increase the survivability of road accident victims and decrease the rate of accidents in the state.

Professor Ravindra Gettu, Dean (Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research), IIT Madras, said, “This MoU[Agreement] will facilitate a strong relationship in which IIT Madras will strengthen the potential of various government stakeholders in Rajasthan and assist them in developing and implementing an effective road safety programme.”

This programme is planned to minimise road accident fatalities in Rajasthan. The initiative would be implemented by the key stakeholders in the Rajasthan Departments of Road Safety, including PWD, Police, Health and Medical Services, Transport, Education, Urban Development and Housing, Local Self Government and National Highways.

Mr. Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, Minister for Transport, Government of Rajasthan, said, “Our Government has always been very committed to improving the road safety initiatives of our State in order to substantially reduce the number of road accidents and fatalities. We are ready to promote interactions between the Government of Rajasthan and IIT Madras stakeholders.”
