About NPTEL:

National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), a joint initiative of IITs and IISc, has started enrollment for the July 2022 Semester through the SWAYAM platform. NPTEL offers certification courses, taught by the faculty from IITs and IISc and gives an opportunity for interested and motivated learners (students, faculty, working professionals or anyone) to study and get certified from the comfort of their homes. Learners must watch videos online, submit assignments on a weekly basis and can register for thel proctored final exam if they wish to get certified. 

Are NPTEL Courses free?

NPTEL offers more than 1200 courses every year, enrollment being free of cost and open to learners across the globe. The possibility for anyone anywhere to learn at their convenience has made the teaching-learning process more student-centered and innovative. NPTEL also works with more than 4600 engineering, arts, science, commerce, and management educational institutions across the country. Students and faculty from these institutions take up NPTEL courses to upgrade their knowledge and skills, for credit transfer and career advancement.. 

What type of courses are offered through NPTEL?

A wide variety of courses are available on NPTEL platform across Engineering, Humanities, Basic Sciences, and Management, etc. While NPTEL content itself has crossed 1.4 billion views the certification courses have received more than 1.8 crore enrolments till date with more than 15 lakhs having been certified.

Some of the popular certification courses include:

• Programming courses on C, C++, Python, Java, Haskell, DBMS
• Data science related courses such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Ethical Hacking, IOT and IOT 4.0, 
• Mechanical Engineering domain courses such as Manufacturing processes, Rapid manufacturing, product design, Thermodynamics and Combustion, Welding, etc
• Electrical Engg courses such as Control engineering, Analog Electronic Circuits, Image Signal Processing, VLSI Interconnects, Basic Electric Circuits, etc.
• Civil engineering courses such as Project Planning & Control, Integrated Waste Management For A Smart City, Remote Sensing and GIS, Reinforced Concrete Road Bridges, Optimization methods for Civil engineering, etc.
• Bioscience related courses such as Cell culture, Plant cell biology, Forests and wildlife, Proteomics, Genomics, etc

There are courses that would be applicable to anyone such as Soft skills, psychology, art and music appreciation, languages that can be learnt such as German – levels 1,2,3, Sanskrit, japanese, Business English and communication related courses

How to get certified by the IITs?

Learners can register for the in-person proctored exam, conducted in more than 170 cities within and outside India. A nominal fee of Rs 1000/- per course exam should be paid with suitable scholarships for those coming from economically and socially disadvantaged learners.  Learners who match the certification criteria will get certificates from the IITs/IISc whoever is offering the course.

When is the last date for enrollment? 

The last date to enroll for the first set of NPTEL courses is 1st August 2022. Learners can enroll for NPTEL courses through https://swayam.gov.in/NPTEL.
