Ms. Roopa Karemungikar ( BT-CE, ’95 ), Co-Founder, Altura Consulting

Roopa’s entrepreneurial journey is an inspiring journey of a first-generation Woman Tech-entrepreneur. After graduating from IIT Madras (Chennai) in 1995, Roopa pursued a Master’s degree in the US. She then relocated to India, worked in ADP for over 7 years, first in the investment banking product domain and then went on to manage the SAP GlobalView (HR and Payroll) delivery for Europe Region.  She was responsible for all off-shore operations for Europe region.

During this period, she developed a keen sense of business and honed her own strengths through stints of her expanding responsibilities. With a constant yearning to challenge herself more, she took the plunge and started Altura Consulting, which she co-founded with Sandeep Vanga, her colleague in ADP.

What Started as a 2-member team in October 2007 is now a 110-member consulting team across 3 continents, 120+ customers in 24 countries. Altura’s track record since its inception, has certainly been impressive with an YOY growth of 35 % over the past 4 years and continues grow under Roopa’s leadership and with support from an ever-expanding partner network and a very satisfied global customer base. Under her strategic leadership, started overseas branches in UK, South Africa & Africa to expand operations to emerging markets. Some of Altura’s key customers include City of London Telecom – UK, Commercial Bank of Africa – Kenya, African Development Bank- Tunisia, BIDCO Oil- Kenya,  CSS Corp – USA/India, Singareni Collieries – India, Hetero healthcare – India. Under her leadership, Altura is a proud winner of the prestigious SAP ACE Award 2016 – Best Strategic Talent Management and HR Implementation partner. Altura is also a CMM-I level 3 Certified organization, an international Software process quality benchmark.

Altura joined NASSCOM, India IT Industry’s premier industry association and Roopa was nominated as the Regional Council Member since 2014, for leading certain initiatives for the state at NASSCOM. From this position, Altura can participate in and influence key policy matters with the Government, an opportunity that Altura and Roopa have well-earned and are looking forward to.

Roopa has been a regular participant in Oxfam TrailWalker Fund Raiser Walk (100kms), a fund-raising event for the rural India. From a Corporate Social Responsibility, every year, Altura extends helping hand to hundreds of not-for-profit organizations as a part of “Impact Day – A Day for Human kindness”. She often speaks at seminars on International Women’s Day and is passionate about promoting Women in Leadership and Entrepreneurism.

For her outstanding efforts and contribution, Roopa’s journey has also been published in “Business For All Magazine” and in “Deccan Chronicle’s Trail Blazer”. Roopa carries with her a strong conviction about the capabilities of her workforce and in being able to bring the best out of people. She is quite positive and bullish about the future and is busy building up a world class team to meet the challenge!

On her personal side, Roopa is blessed with a daughter Aditi who is 8 years old. A loving husband Vasu Adunutula, who is also from IIT Madras Civil Engineering batch of 1995. Her hobbies include Cycling, Hindustani Classical Music and Spending time with friends. She recently participated and finished 3rd at the 30 Km Foundation Ride in The Great Hyderabad Cyclothon. She is also a graduate in Hindustani classical music (vocal) from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal and a true Hyderabadi.

On a closing note, Roopa’s message to aspiring entrepreneurs “It is important not to give up, and stay afloat during the not so good times. They too shall pass. We have to Prevail and we shall”.
