Shri Arvind Nithrakashyap received his Bachelor’s in Computer Science from IIT Madras in 1995, followed by a Master’s in CS from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1997. He has over 20 years of experience in building storage, databases and distributed systems. He is currently Co-founder and CTO of Rubrik, one of the fastest-growing Unicorn startups in the enterprise space.
He has demonstrated extensive technical expertise and phenomenal execution, as illustrated throughout his career. At Oracle, he architected and built some of the foundational pieces of infrastructure, such as distributed caching, recovery, transaction management, and storage. He even co-founded Oracle Exadata, the company’s flagship database system, and one of Oracle’s core storage platforms today. At RocketFuel, he architected and built their engine supporting the core business use case; the real-time bidding engine had to be highly scalable, reliable, and respond with ad candidates extremely fast. He led a team of 30 engineers and helped build a large-scale ad platform that could handle 50 billion requests per day with 50-60 millisecond latency.
At Rubrik, he has combined his technical expertise, inspiring leadership, and excellent execution capabilities to build one of the most phenomenal and fastest-growing enterprise companies of all time. As the CTO, his impact spans multiple functional areas across the company, including support, sales, and marketing, in addition to product and engineering. The fact that Rubrik, as a young company, was able to attract top talent from Facebook, Google and other large companies is a testament to the strength of the engineering organization that Shri Arvind built. He is a frequent keynote and panel speaker on entrepreneurship and technology trends. He is regarded as a foremost thinker in databases and data management having authored numerous patents in distributed systems and databases.
For his immense accomplishments in the field of data management and as an entrepreneur, IIT Madras and its alumni are proud to confer this award upon Shri Arvind Nithrakashyap.
