Special sheet made by IIT Madras experts to keep food safe

Now the food taken outside the house or home will be safe from harmful bacteria etc. Experts from IIT Madras have developed a product called Antimicrobial Wrapping Material to keep food safe. The food or bread kept in it will be 99.999 percent safe from bacteria etc. The special thing is that due to keeping food in this product, there will be no need for plastic containers or tiffin.

Research scholar Pooja Kumari, headed by Professor Mukesh Doble, Department of Biotechnology, has researched this product. Due to this project, the team of IIT Madras has also received the award for Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Appreciation 2020. The team has also applied to the patent for this product.

Pro. According to Mukesh, the purpose of this research was to remove plastic from the plates of the common people and give them a disease-free and anti-microbial food wrap product. In this research, along with the health of the people, the environment has also been taken into account. At present, whatever food wrapping sheets or products are in the market, they harm the environment. Whereas every person wants to keep his food safe while leaving the house. Because after leaving home there is a long time between traffic and lunch time during office. If food is to be eaten in plastic sheets or cans, its toxic elements get mixed in the food. Many people wrap their bread etc. in waste paper, the ink in that paper goes into the body through food and harms health.

– 300 million tons of plastic waste is generated every year
According to research scholar Pooja, about 300 million tonnes of plastic waste or waste is generated every year. While only nine percent of this plastic can be reused. Apart from this, 12 per cent are burnt. According to another research report, one in ten people in the world get sick from eating in plastic utensils. Apart from this, 4,20,000 people lose their lives every year due to plastic.

– The product dissolves in the soil in 21 days
According to research, this waste sheet or product dissolves in the soil in 4 to 21 days. Thus, it does not cause any harm to the soil or the environment. The material used in making this sheet is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration. It has been tested in the lab of India. During training in the lab, after keeping the product in 30 degree temperature for ten days, it was also tested with common food wrap product available in the market. It was revealed that the food kept in it is up to 99.999 percent germ and microbiological.
