IIT-Madras gets Rs 10 crore approval for software development from Shipping Ministry

In a major e-governance push, the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has been sanctioned an amount of Rs 10 crore by the Ministry of Shipping for the development of software for traffic management of the Indian ports.

Minister of State for Shipping Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday made this announcement while stressing the need for the development of software development indigenously aligning with the vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat, paving the way for Make for the World vessel traffic management systems.

According to official communication, software solutions – VTS and VTMS – determine vessel positions, other traffic or meteorological hazard warnings and extensive management of traffic within a port or waterway.
