Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today at the Wings India 2024 expo to collaborate on developing a virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR) training module for the Hindustan-228 aircraft. This innovative partnership aims to revolutionize pilot training by leveraging cutting-edge immersive technology.
The MoU was signed by Mr. A.K. Shrivastava, General Manager (TAD Kanpur) for HAL, and Dr. M. Manivannan, Professor at IIT Madras, in the presence of Mr. Sajal Prakash, CEO (Aircraft Complex) for HAL. This collaboration will see the development of a comprehensive VR/AR training module specifically designed for the Hindustan-228 aircraft, a versatile turboprop used for civilian and military purposes.
The VR/AR module will offer pilots a realistic and immersive training environment, simulating various flight scenarios and emergency situations in a safe and controlled setting. This can significantly enhance training efficiency and effectiveness, reducing training costs and improving pilot preparedness for real-world challenges.
