Hema Gopal [1986/MS/CS], VP, TCS

Hema Gopal has led several large transformational engagements and outsourcing for TCS’ Banking and Financial services customers. Starting her career in 1985, she has donned various roles in relationship management, delivery management, pre-sales, learning and development, technology excellence and other corporate responsibilities.

Hema has done her MS in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. She holds a Bachelors degree in Electronics Engineering from Anna University and a Bachelors degree in Science from the University of Madras.

She has over 27 years of experience in winning, executing and managing engagements involving various areas of software engineering for clients across the world. She is currently the Global Head for TCS IBM Centre of Excellence. She has been conferred the “Top Women in IT” by DATAQUEST for two consecutive years and has been showcased as a role model in TCS DAWN (Diversity and Women’s Network) initiative.

She has been entrusted with various corporate activities such as management of a large Delivery Centre, corporate communication initiatives, recruitment, software training, process improvement programs, quality management and mentoring activities. She is an active participant in various forums on Corporate Social Responsibility.

Hema has been the Relationship Manager for First Banking Systems (UK), Royal bank of Scotland (UK), CITIBANK (Singapore), GAP (USA), HSBC (UK), CSPB (Switzerland), Standard Chartered Bank (Asia Pacific), Experian (U.K & USA), Visa International, Bank One, BB&T, Banco Popular and Sallie Mae. She has been managing large offshore teams in the offshore development center in multiple locations in India. She has handled many mission critical Transformational engagements on IBM M/F. She received the Banker’s Technology Award “Highly Commended status in Core Banking Systems” Project category for CIS Migration project done on Mainframe for JP Morgan Chase. She has worked in multi-platforms ranging from ICL, Tandem, IBM mainframes and Burroughs. She possesses thorough knowledge on IBM M/F and trained by IBM in New Zealand in 1986 and worked on variety of M/Fs and its related products for the last 2 decades.

She is keen on spearheading the competency development within the organization and works closely with the Academia to enhance the entry level skills. She has been the secretary for IEEE and an active Alumni of Anna University and IIT. She has been part of curriculum advisory board, Governing councils for several Institutions and conceptualized many Faculty Development Programs for Academia. She is a Key Advisory Board Member for the Z/OS Certification Program offered by the Prestigious Marist College in U.S.A. She has been show cased as a senior technical women from India in Anita Borg Institute, California USA. She has been a faculty for ME in Information Systems for CEG, Chennai. She is also the Task force member of Anna University of Technology Council representing the Industry and development council of Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai and several other Engineering institutions.

Hema has been an active sports person right from her school days and won many field and track events namely running, kho kho, net ball , throw ball, ring tennis and has been the captain of her school team. Hema was also the district runner up in Tennicoit and represented University of Madras, Anna University and IIT Madras in many events. She has been an active participant in TCS sports events and has been encouraging women associates in TCS to take part in sports.
