Badri obtained his B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Madras in 1991 and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University, USA in 1996.

In 1996, he co-founded Cricinfo, a website dedicated to cricket information. After Cricinfo was sold to the Wisden Group in 2003, Badri left Cricinfo to start a book publishing company in Chennai called New Horizon Media (NHM), where he is currently its Managing Director. NHM publishes books primarily in Tamil. NHM has recently forayed into Cloud Computing space as well.
Badri writes on technology, science, education, politics and current affairs in Tamil and English newspapers and magazines. He has written a few books in Tamil for school children. He regularly appears in television programs in Tamil channels such as Vijay TV, Puthiya Thalaimurai and Thanthi TV. He anchored a 17-week ‘walk-the-talk’ program in Thanthi TV.
